12 People Christians Should Think Twice About Marrying

Thinking about tying the knot? Hold up! While love is great, some matches might not be made in heaven. Everyone wants a happy marriage, but picking the wrong partner can lead to heartache. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of 12 types of people Christians should think twice about marrying. Trust me, this could save you from a lot of trouble down the road!

This list covers everything from the party animal who never wants to grow up to the one who’s always glued to their phone. I’m not saying these people are bad; they just might not be the best fit for a Christian looking for a lifelong partner.

1. The Party Animal

This person lives for the weekend and never turns down a good time. They’re always out late, drinking and dancing the night away. When they’re not partying, they’re planning the next big bash. They might say they’ll change after marriage, but old habits die hard. Can you really see yourself building a quiet, God-centered life with someone who’s always chasing the next thrill?

2. The Shopaholic

Money burns a hole in their pocket faster than you can say “sale.” They can’t resist buying the latest gadgets, clothes, or home decor. Their closet is bursting, but they still “have nothing to wear.” Credit card debt? They’ve got plenty. This person’s love for material things might clash with Christian values of simplicity and good stewardship.

3. The Workaholic

Their job isn’t just a job – it’s their whole life. They’re always at the office, even on weekends and holidays. When they’re home, they’re still thinking about work or checking emails. Family time? That’s a luxury they can’t afford. While hard work is good, this person might not have room in their life for God or a spouse.

4. The Couch Potato

Netflix and chill is their idea of the perfect day, every day. They’d rather stay in than go out, even for church. Exercise? No thanks. They’re content to let life pass them by from the comfort of their sofa. This laziness might extend to their faith and relationship, leaving you to do all the heavy lifting.

5. The Social Media Addict

Their phone is practically glued to their hand. They’re always scrolling, posting, or checking for likes. Real-life conversations are interrupted by the need to capture the perfect selfie. They care more about their online image than real relationships. Can this person truly be present in a marriage and grow in faith when they’re so distracted?

6. The Gossip

They always have the latest scoop on everyone’s business. They love to share secrets and spread rumors. No conversation is complete without some juicy tidbit about someone else. While they might seem fun and in-the-know, this behavior goes against Christian teachings of kindness and respect. Do you want to be married to someone who can’t keep things confidential?

7. The Commitment-Phobe

They run at the first sign of getting serious. Long-term plans make them nervous. They’ve had lots of short relationships but never anything that lasted. Even choosing what to eat for dinner is a struggle for them. Can this person really commit to a lifetime of marriage, let alone a commitment to God?

8. The Anger Issues Guy/Gal

Their temper is always on a short fuse. Little things set them off in big ways. They yell, slam doors, or give the silent treatment when upset. Apologies are rare, and they never seem to learn from their mistakes. This behavior not only goes against Christian values of peace and self-control but could also lead to a toxic or even dangerous marriage.

9. The Eternal Child

They refuse to grow up and take on adult responsibilities. Their room is a mess, and they can’t cook a meal to save their life. They expect others (maybe their parents) to take care of everything. While it’s good to keep a youthful spirit, a marriage needs two mature partners. Can this person be a true partner in life and faith?

10. The Non-Believer

They don’t share your faith and have no interest in changing. They might respect your beliefs but don’t understand them. Church and prayer are not part of their life plan. While it’s possible to love someone with different beliefs, the Bible warns against being “unequally yoked.”

11. The Control Freak

Everything has to be done their way, or it’s wrong. They micromanage every detail of their life (and yours). Compromise is not in their vocabulary. They always need to be in charge, even in situations where they lack expertise. This need for control might extend to your faith life, causing conflicts and stunting spiritual growth.

12. The Mama’s Boy/Daddy’s Girl

Their parents are still the number one priority in their life. They can’t make decisions without consulting mom or dad first. They expect their parents to be involved in every aspect of their lives, including their marriage. While honoring parents is important, the Bible says to “leave and cleave.” Can this person truly commit to putting their spouse first?
