16 Things Canadians Are Demanding to Be Banned

Canadians are known for being polite and easy-going, but even they have things that drive them crazy. From annoying habits to unfair rules, there are some things that many Canadians wish would just disappear. In this article, I’m going to look at 16 things that a lot of Canadians want to see banned.

Daylight Saving Time

Many Canadians are tired of changing their clocks twice a year. It messes up sleep schedules and can be confusing. Some provinces, like Saskatchewan, already don’t use it. Many people think it’s time for the whole country to pick one time and stick with it.

Plastic bags in grocery stores

Plastic bags are bad for the environment and often end up in landfills or oceans. Some Canadian cities have already banned them. Many Canadians want this ban to spread across the whole country. They think reusable bags are a better choice.

Animal testing for cosmetics

Testing makeup and other beauty products on animals is still allowed in Canada. Many people think this is cruel and want it to stop. They believe there are better ways to make sure products are safe.

Fake news and misinformation online

Like people in many countries, Canadians are worried about false information spreading online. They want stricter rules for social media companies. Many think there should be consequences for sharing fake news.

High cell phone and internet prices

Canadians often pay more for phone and internet service than people in other countries. Many think this is unfair and want the government to step in. They believe these services should be more affordable for everyone.

Loud motorcycles

Some motorcycles are really noisy and bother people, especially at night. Many Canadians think there should be stricter rules about how loud bikes can be. They want to enjoy peace and quiet in their neighborhoods.

Private health insurance

Canada has public healthcare, but some things still need private insurance. Many Canadians want a system that covers everything, including dental and eye care. They think healthcare shouldn’t depend on how much money you have.

Pennies

Canada got rid of the penny in 2013, but some people still have them. Many Canadians want to ban pennies completely. They think pennies are a waste of time and space. Prices could just be rounded to the nearest five cents.

Winter

Okay, this one’s a joke (mostly). Canadians often complain about their long, cold winters. While they can’t actually ban a season, many wish they could! They dream of warmer weather and less snow shoveling.

Unpaid internships

Some companies don’t pay their interns. Many Canadians think this is unfair, especially to young people trying to start their careers. They want all work to be paid work, no matter what you call it.

Bottled water

Bottled water creates a lot of plastic waste. Many Canadians think it’s unnecessary in a country with good tap water. They want to see fewer plastic bottles and more reusable ones.

Single-use plastics

Things like plastic straws and cutlery are used once and thrown away. Many Canadians want these banned to help the environment. Some cities have already started banning these items.

This is a practice that tries to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Many Canadians think it’s harmful and want it banned across the country. They believe people should be accepted for who they are.

Door-to-door sales

Some salespeople go from house to house trying to sell things. Many Canadians find this annoying and sometimes even scary. They want stricter rules about who can come to their doors and when.

Puppy mills

These are places that breed dogs in bad conditions just to make money. Many Canadians want them banned completely. They think all dogs should be treated well and that people should adopt from shelters instead.

Excessive packaging

Many products come wrapped in layers of plastic and cardboard. Canadians who care about the environment want less packaging on the things they buy. They think companies should find ways to use less material when selling their products.
